Nightmare pushed back, Comic Con footage details

The footage that was shown at the Comic Con Nightmare on Elm Street hasn’t been leaked yet, and there are no plans for an official release. So for now, all we can do is read the descriptions about it and try to stay calm.

‘Elm Street’ reboot footage shown at Comic-Con: Several minutes of footage from the upcoming “Nightmare on Elm Street” reboot was show to an audience attending the Warner Brothers’ panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, Friday.

Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, along with director Samuel Bayer, hosted the presentation.
The first clip featured Freddy Krueger (Jackie Earle Haley) before his death, fleeing from a group of vengeful parents. He takes shelter in a dilapidated factory, fortifying himself inside as firebombs begin striking the building. As he pulls off his jacket to reveal an all-too-familiar sweater, the building explodes.

Another scene spotlights Freddy coming to life. Many images evoke classic scenes from the original 1984 film, including a girl prowling a high school in a plastic body bag and a boyfriend attempting to wake his girlfriend up, only to see her rise into the air and strike the ceiling.

Freddy is largely kept to the shadows, though his glove is featured prominently.

As the footage concludes, Freddy says, “Ready or not, here I come.”

And to add to that, the film has been pushed back: Instead of opening on April 16, 2010 it will now show up on April 30.

The shift, according to Andrew Form’s comments to STYD, has to do with the fact that there was no competition on April 30. Granted, one week later Freddy Krueger will have to face off against Iron Man 2, but if the box office pattern for Friday the 13th is repeated here (massive opening weekend followed by massive dropoff) that won’t be a killer. And Nightmare could potentially reap benefits similar to those earned by The Mummy in ‘99 if sold-out Iron Man 2 screenings lead people into the new Nightmare.
